… NATO is moving in the right direction with Steadfast Jazz to reassure its allies in Eastern Europe and prove NATO’s credibility to Moscow. But the 6,000 NATO troops to be mobilized for Steadfast Jazz may be too few to impress the Kremlin, being about one-quarter of those mobilized in Zapad-13, and could create the wrong impression about NATO’s commitment.
If the Cold War has returned to Europe, NATO is not ready. If the Russian army is not what it used to be, neither is NATO. The Russian military, for all its shortcomings, has 1.4 million armed troops. Today, the German army has 60,000 active-duty soldiers. The United States has 45,000 troops in Germany and 73,000 in all of Europe. Poland’s army, with 100,000 troops, looks like NATO’s strongman, but is technologically a hollow force. If Russia is ready to strike first and early with nuclear weapons, it is a greater threat to NATO than the Red Army of old.

Par to nuclear strike – nu ja utainie izdomā to darīt, tad jau paši arī dabūs ierīt kodolgalviņas, ja vien rietumi nenomīzīs.
Kādi Rietumi: US, GB, FR? GB un FR vari aizmirst , ASV … atkarīgs no konteksta, ja pašiem nekas nedraudēs. Domāju krievi ākstas ar to “triecienu”.
