SPIEGEL:

[…]“At present, the alliance could not protect the Baltic countries with conventional military means.”

That is the most important sentence, and officials at the German defense and foreign ministries in Berlin agree. It would take about half a year before the members of the alliance would be capable of mustering a suitable response, if at all.

“We wouldn’t even show up in time for the Russians’ victory celebration,” says a government expert, who points out that the existing, vague deployment plans are “all outdated.” The German military’s joint operations command is now in close contact with NATO, with the aim of developing an emergency plan as quickly as possible.[…]“

FINANCIAL TIMES:

[…]If Congress perceives US allies as unready to respond seriously to the collective defence requirements of their neighbours, it may question whether America should pay so much attention to Article 5. That would seriously weaken Nato.

The lack of a sustained European ground presence has another unintended impact. The fewer conventional forces are committed to their defence, the louder will be the insistence from Baltic and central European allies that US nuclear arms remain in Europe. Allies such as Germany, the Netherlands and Belgium have expressed a desire to see the US nuclear presence reduced. Without robust conventional assurance, however, nuclear arms are likely to stay.[…]

  1. Tātad, atzīst, ka pa piecām dienām neko prātīgu mūsu aizsardzībai nesakasīs, vismaz ne pats NATO kā tāds, vienīgi amerikāņu klātbūtne Eiropā nodrošina tādu kā viltus drošības sajūtu un paļāvību uz amerikāņu onkuli, kurš eiropiešu naivo pseido-pacifistu vietā paveiks visus netīros darbus!
    Tātad, prasam ieročus, tehniku, apmācību un NATO, ES un viss, lai jau pisās viņi ilgāk par piecām dienām, tagad laiks ir sagatavot reālus, mūsdienām atbilstošus plānus, nevis Aukstā kara perioda brīnumus, kuri šobrīd ir tikai prasti papīrīši bez tehnikas un cilvēku seguma!
