[..] Whatever happens to the UK’s involvement in the financial politics of Europe, it is clear that its and Europe’s commitment to the North Atlantic alliance should be ever closer and NATO should be filling its yawning equipment gaps and binding itself militarily ever closer to face down the bully on its Eastern border. A deployment of a handful of aircraft to Lithuania and a Squadron of minesweepers into the Baltic seems more of a gesture to Western Public opinion than a serious attempt to convince Russia that “an attack on one is an attack on all” is a reality and not just an aspiration.
