vara bungas: Mašīntulkojums no norvēģu valodas.
[..] Russia ran extensive electronic jamming during the NATO exercise Trident Juncture, told intelligence chief Morten Haga Lunde during his annual lecture in Oslo Military Society on Monday night.
It was in the middle of October 2018 that Russia stationed a jamming system on the Luostari airbase, 16 kilometers from the Norwegian border.
- The following days, we recorded short, occasional cases of jamming, probably related to Russian exercise activity, Lunde said.
Then the equipment for electronic warfare was moved higher in the terrain.
- The day after, during the start-up of Trident Juncture, we saw that the pattern of surge changed significantly. Jamming increased markedly in magnitude and signal strength. This affected large parts of the airspace over Finnmark, and civilian aircraft lost GPS signal. Jamming ceased on November 7, the same day that the Trident Juncture exercise ended, says Morten Haga Lunde, chief of intelligence.
A loss of GPS signals affects both shipping and aviation, and can lead to loss of life. TV 2 told the weekend that the air ambulance service had to suspend its activities at one of Finnmark’s airports for a period.
Defense Minister Frank Bakke-Jensen (H) describes the GPS outcomes as very serious.
Secretary General Morten Haga Lunde said on Monday that there is particular concern about the Russian use of jamming.
- This not only hinders Norwegian and Allied military practice. It also represents a threat to civilian activity in peacetime, including air traffic and civil emergency services, said Lunde in the Oslo Military Society.
According to the intelligence service, GPS jamming is a new element in the new normal picture that is being developed in the High North.
During the lecture, the audience saw a chart showing the scope of the Russian wretch, and the jamming activity that coincided exactly in time with Trident Juncture.
- Our assessment is that the activity was directly related to the exercise, and probably was carried out with the intention of influencing Norwegian and allied use of airspace during the exercise, said Lieutenant General Morten Haga Lunde.[..] .
